ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardyce said in a statement that the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has demonstrated the significant economic power of cricket, generating an economic benefit of $1.39 billion (Rs 11,637 crore) for India. Tourism revenue of $861.4 million was generated in the host cities, which includes travel, food and accommodation. Because a large number of domestic and foreign tourists had arrived for the matches. The report claimed that a record 12 lakh 50 thousand spectators watched the World Cup in the stadium and about 75 percent of them came to watch the ICC 50-over match for the first time.

Tourism sector got a boost

According to the ICC statement, 55 percent of the foreign fans interviewed had visited India regularly before, while 19 percent of the foreign fans visited India for the first time due to the World Cup. Foreign travelers visited many tourist destinations during their stay, resulting in an economic impact of $281.2 million.

About 68 percent people said that they would recommend India as a tourist destination to their friends and family members in future, which would further improve India’s global image. The report said more than 48,000 full- and part-time jobs were created through direct participation in organizing the tournament, as well as by other organizations in the hospitality sector.
